catching up...

So as I mentioned in my last post, I have been AWOL from my blog for a while but do have loads of scrapping to catch up with so lets take a look at where I left off... I have a bunch of layouts to share that I completed for a month full of baby challenges over at Scrapz.Biz back in May
I'm pretty sure I already showed you a peek at my Birth Stories challenge where I created 3 separate pages for each of my boys to fit inside a large page pocket to record all the details and the stories of their births.
here is Cayden
Cameron
and Christian
Next up I created a Nursery Inspiration challenge where you had to draw inspiration from one of the nurseries to create your layout.
As you can see I went with the blue and green tones of Nursery 1 and added several round elements to mimic the cute paper lanterns in the pic.
I love scrapping baby photos and still had plenty of them on hand from when Cayden was a baby and created a sketch to use banners and bunting which seem to be a perfect match for baby pages
and came up with this page of my little fatty using October Afternoon's Farmhouse range
and to finish off the month I set a Baby's First Year challenge to look back at how much our little bundles of joy had changed during their first year.
this was originally going to be a double layout but i had a bit of an accident with one side so reworked it into a single page using Fancy Pants Baby Mine range.

Thanks for sticking around while I try to play catch up - I'll got plenty more so expect to see me again soon ;)

the sky was all purple...

I know it's been a long time between posts and my blog absense all started when a certain Prince came to town!
source: npg records
I have been a HUGE Prince fan for over 20 years since I discovered his music back in high school and was more than excited to hear that he was coming back to Australia and as a result I spent most of May in a purple haze!
Prince has always had a reputation for putting on an awesome live show and OMG he sure delivered on the night and rocked the crowd with a string of his greatest hits that had the packed arena 'delirious' for over 3 hrs while Prince did his thing on his famous O(+> Symbol stage!

It was awesome to hear Prince perform favourites like Raspberry Beret and 1999 and I loved that everyone went a little nuts when we heard the familiar opening "dearly beloved...." of Let's Go Crazy and the atmosphere was incredible with the whole crowd singing Ooh-hoo-hoo-hoo under a confetti filled sky of Purple Rain :)

I think my favourites of the night were the When Doves Cry, Hot Thing & Sign 'O' The Times sampler where Prince funked things out on a synth disguised as a fabulous purple piano!

and I have to say I've never danced, sang and screamed so much in my life....well not until the following week because can you believe that I WON 2 PURPLE RESERVE TICKETS for the final Sydney show thanks to the fabulous people over at Prince Welcome 2 Australia Tour where I had been hanging out along with over 10 thousand other purple minded people during the tour ;)
Prince was even more amazing the second time round and I have to admit that I totally lost it during his ''slow down'' version or Little Red Corvette (my favourite song of all) and teared up during the beautiful 'Sometimes it Snows in April' all before being treated to the most awesome encores after half the people had already left the arena because they thought it was over... the crowd that stayed behind packed tightly around the stage as our "Little Prince" shared even more of his amazing talent!

Here's a few pics I managed to sneak in during the shows...

and this was me in my Purple Rain tee ready to go to the first concert
I also won this awesome cd/dvd pack along with a tour poster

Sigh* I hope it's not another 10 year wait for Prince to come back again ♥

getting dirty for scrap the boys...

We've got a fun and messy challenge for you at Scrap the Boys this month, where you need to use a photo of your boy(s) getting dirty - this could be anything from mud, paint, dirt, cooking, eating and so on... you also need to use the photo to inspire your layout in some way.

I've gone with some pics of Cayden exploring the sandy mud on a recent day out.
as you can see he had a great time getting dirty and was covered in mud by the time he was done ;)
I used drops of ink to resemble the muddy mess and also applied it to my chipboard title.
Be sure to stop by STB to check out all the fun pages the girls have created this month.... maybe you'll even decide to play along too :)

and the winner is...

I'm very excited about this month's challenge at Scrap the Boys because it is based on my entry for the CT application :) Here's what I created
and the challenge is to re-cycle some form of packaging that is boy related, this could be toy related, scrapbooking packaging or even something from a magazine or book - use your imagination!
My re-cycled item is a piece of textured plastic that I saved from the packaging of one of my boy's new toys
Come and check out all the fabulous layouts the rest of the team have come up with here...maybe you'll be tempted to play along for a chance to win some awesome prizes!!

chipboard, paint and flowers...

I hope you've all had a nice break over Easter? I have been loving all the extra late night scrapping time thanks to school holidays and have created lots of new layouts but before I get to those, here's the last of the product based challenges I set over at Scrapz.Biz last month.
I wasn't sure how I'd go with the flower challenge because most of my pages are about my boys, but I was very happy with the results of mixing up Authentique's Celebrate range with some fun paper rosettes and rolled denim & felt flowers.
The page was created as a ''base jump" challenge which is where you are provided with basic elements on our base page design which you then build on by adding in your photos, embellishments, title, extra papers and elements you want to include.
Here's the base I started with
I tried to keep my flowers looking more boyish by choosing darker colours and contrasting textures
but couldn't resist adding a bit bling to liven up my flower clusters
the flocked Iron-on's from Prima were awesome too :)
Next up is the layout I created for the chipboard challenge - this time it was a Scrap it Blind layout which is where you are given a set of written instructions on how to put the page together without actually seeing it first and really loved playing with Echo Park's This & That Charming collection
I covered some raw chipboard with patterned paper for a few custom accents
and also created a few layered clusters using printed chipboard from the collection

I set another 'base jump' challenge for our paint theme and really enjoyed getting out my acrylics to have a bit of a play. This was how my 'base' page started off...
and I used a mix of Crate Paper goodness to turn it into this
I probably could have gotten a bit more adventurous with my paint techniques but do like the effect of the simple swiped border and random paint drips.
Thanks for stopping by and let me know if you've been scrapping so I can come and have a peek :)
