scrap the boys and re-cycling...

I'm very excited about this month's challenge at Scrap the Boys because it is based on my entry for the CT application :) Here's what I created
and the challenge is to re-cycle some form of packaging that is boy related, this could be toy related, scrapbooking packaging or even something from a magazine or book - use your imagination!
My re-cycled item is a piece of textured plastic that I saved from the packaging of one of my boy's new toys
Come and check out all the fabulous layouts the rest of the team have come up with here...maybe you'll be tempted to play along for a chance to win some awesome prizes!!

chipboard, paint and flowers...

I hope you've all had a nice break over Easter? I have been loving all the extra late night scrapping time thanks to school holidays and have created lots of new layouts but before I get to those, here's the last of the product based challenges I set over at Scrapz.Biz last month.
I wasn't sure how I'd go with the flower challenge because most of my pages are about my boys, but I was very happy with the results of mixing up Authentique's Celebrate range with some fun paper rosettes and rolled denim & felt flowers.
The page was created as a ''base jump" challenge which is where you are provided with basic elements on our base page design which you then build on by adding in your photos, embellishments, title, extra papers and elements you want to include.
Here's the base I started with
I tried to keep my flowers looking more boyish by choosing darker colours and contrasting textures
but couldn't resist adding a bit bling to liven up my flower clusters
the flocked Iron-on's from Prima were awesome too :)
Next up is the layout I created for the chipboard challenge - this time it was a Scrap it Blind layout which is where you are given a set of written instructions on how to put the page together without actually seeing it first and really loved playing with Echo Park's This & That Charming collection
I covered some raw chipboard with patterned paper for a few custom accents
and also created a few layered clusters using printed chipboard from the collection

I set another 'base jump' challenge for our paint theme and really enjoyed getting out my acrylics to have a bit of a play. This was how my 'base' page started off...
and I used a mix of Crate Paper goodness to turn it into this
I probably could have gotten a bit more adventurous with my paint techniques but do like the effect of the simple swiped border and random paint drips.
Thanks for stopping by and let me know if you've been scrapping so I can come and have a peek :)

brads with a sketch...

I think I've re-discovered a love of brads thanks to the recent product challenges over at Scrapz.Biz and have noticed them finding their way onto most of my recent pages!

I created this page for a Fetch a Sketch challenge that focused on using... yep you guessed it - brads ;)
this was the sketch I came up with
and here are some of the brads :)
Do you like using brads too?

twine and rub-ons...

Hi, It's been a while since I've updated but I have been scrapping and so I'm playing catch-up with a few of the challenges I set over at Scrapz.Biz last month. I've really enjoyed all the fun product based challenges and loved that it gave me a reason to get through some of the ''stash'' we all seem to accumulate along the way ;)
I went a loopy over baker's twine several months ago and was very happy to see 'twine' on our challenge list
I paired up some of my twine with Echo Park's Times and Seasons collection using this sketch I created below
then tied, looped and stitched a bit of twine to add a some detail to my page

Rub-ons were next on the list and this is what I came up with for my Scrap Write Now challenge
using some pretty Prima with a bit of MME Stella and Rose
and because it was a journal challenge I created a little tag/book to hold a special message for my boy which I dressed up with some gorgeous Prima Flocked rub-ons as well as a few others I was able to salvage from a half stuck sheet of Hambly rub-ons.
I've still got quite a few more pages to catch up with so I will be back with those soon
but until then, thanks for stopping by :)
